In June 2020, the Prince of Wales and Klaus Schwab launched an initiative called the Great Reset. Schwab, the head of the annual Davos summit suggested that the pandemic be seen as an opportunity for what he referred to as the “Great Reset” of Capitalism.
“Every country, from the United States to China, must participate, and every industry, from oil and gas to tech, must be transformed.”
Countries already reeling economically from the costs of Covid are being pushed into environmental commitments.
Prof. Klaus Schwab, head of the World Economic Forum (WEF), organises an annual summit in Davos, a Swiss ski resort for some of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful people.
He explained the idea behind the Great Reset in an article accompanying the launch:
” We must use it to secure the Great Reset that we so badly need. That will require stronger and more effective governments,
This lack of clarity, emphasis on growing governments and environmental mandates provided the ground for concerns of many to grow.
The proposals behind the Great Reset, along with the WEF itself, faced criticism from a number of sources accusing the organisation of pushing for environmental policies that would hurt the economies of every country.
The general public were more concerned over the reach of unelected individuals like Mr Schwab and his WEF being able to lobby his ideas to powerful people groups of the Davos meetings that could transform the global economy and influence world events.
There were also concerns from the public on the impact of global health directives and tracking technologies on jobs and civil liberties.
since the initiative was launched in May 202, the term “Great Reset” received more than eight million interactions on Facebook and has been shared close to two million times on Twitter 1, according to BBC Monitoring research.
Social Media also fuelled concerns that “the Great Reset was simply a strategic part of a grand conspiracy by the global elite, who somehow planned and managed the Covid-19 pandemic. In this narrative, lockdown restrictions were introduced not to curb the spread of the virus, but to deliberately bring about economic collapse and a socialist world government, albeit run for the benefit of powerful capitalists” according to the BBC data.
COMMENT: Only time will tell. One thing is clear—the downturn in the Global economy due to Covid and the ongoing cost of government mandates and health treatments including vaccines and has left nations spiralling in debt, slow in recovery and looking for a saviour.
