Australians Fear an Invasion by China More than the Taiwanese

The results of a survey published by a major think tank today revealed that Australians fear an invasion by China of Australia far more than the Taiwanese believe China will attack Taiwan.

The Australia Institute polled two groups’ of 1000 people, one each in Australia and Taiwan.

The think tank found, almost one in 10 Australians believe that an invasion by China will come “soon”, compared with only one in 20 Taiwanese.

Only half of the Australian men (49 per cent) thought the nation would be prepared for armed conflict if China threatened Australia with a military strike. Only a quarter of the women (26 per cent) thought we were prepared.

The polling also found that more Australians (85 per cent) than Taiwanese (80 per cent) regarded China as aggressive.
