Female Prisoners Petition Removal of Transgender Inmate

AUSTRALIA: A male sex offender now identifying as a “woman” has been transferred to Dame Phyllis Frost Correctional Centre. It is one of Australia’s largest women’s correctional facilities.

At present the offender is in lock down 23 hours a day according to an article released by Reduxx but the intention of the Corrections Department is to have “her” fully integrated and working within the unit.

Inmates at the facility have launched a petition addressed to the Minister of Corrections to have the inmate removed. “We feel threatened, unsafe, distressed and traumatised with this current situation. Accordingly, we demand that (the transgender inmate) be immediately removed from the Murray unit,” the petition says. “We consider this petition a matter of urgency and would therefore appreciate your prompt response.”

While the name of the transgender inmate has been withheld, the article released by Reduxx believed they may have identified the person as a trans-identified male who had been sentenced to 3 years and 3 months in prison for sexually assaulting a woman (not known to him) at Richmond Train Station, last year. During that trial, it was revealed that the inmate also had a prior record for sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl in Germany, for which he served six years in a male prison there prior to being deported to Australia in 2018.

EDITOR: If this is the case then the concerns of women at the facility may be warranted. There just may have to be separate holding facilities for all transgender inmates.
